Service overview

More Than Just a Tire Change

Flat tire situations vary. Some vehicles have a full-size spare, some have a temporary spare, and many newer vehicles do not include a spare at all. A tire may have a small puncture, major damage, a leaking valve, a damaged wheel, or another issue that is difficult to identify from the side of the road.

Roadside Responder does not expect you to diagnose the problem before calling. We review the tire, vehicle, available spare, location, and nearby options to determine what assistance may be available.

The solution may be as simple as installing your spare or plugging an eligible puncture. In other cases, we may help locate a replacement tire and pick it up when practical. Our goal is to help you find a workable solution instead of immediately turning the request away because you do not have a spare.

When to request

  • Your tire is flat or rapidly losing air
  • You found a nail, screw, or other object in the tire
  • Your vehicle has a spare but you cannot safely install it
  • Your vehicle does not have a spare
  • The tire is damaged and you are unsure whether it can be plugged
  • You need help finding the correct replacement tire
  • You located a replacement tire but cannot pick it up
  • Your tire-pressure warning appeared and the tire looks low
  • You are unsure what caused the tire problem
  • The vehicle is stopped at home, work, a parking lot, or along the road

Ways we may help

The Right Option Depends on the Tire and Vehicle

There is no need to choose the exact service before contacting us. Describe what happened and provide any information you have. We will review the situation and discuss the available options.

  • Spare Tire InstallationIf your vehicle has a usable full-size or temporary spare, Roadside Responder can remove the damaged wheel and install the spare at your location. We can also help locate the spare, wheel-lock key, jack points, and required vehicle information when they are not immediately obvious. The spare must be compatible with the vehicle and appear suitable for use.
  • On-Site Tire PlugSome punctures in the main tread area may qualify for an on-site tire plug after inspection. A plug can provide a practical way to get the vehicle moving again, but it is not the same as removing the tire and completing an internal tire repair. The tire should be inspected by a tire professional afterward.
  • Tire Inflation AssistanceIf the tire is low but has not suffered obvious major damage, inflation may help identify whether it is holding air and whether another tire solution is needed. Inflation alone may not resolve an active leak, so we will explain what is observed and discuss the next available option.
  • Replacement Tire AssistanceWhen the existing tire cannot reasonably be plugged and no usable spare is available, we may help identify the required tire size, locate an available replacement, and pick it up or deliver it to the vehicle when practical. Availability depends on tire specifications, retailer inventory and hours, travel distance, equipment, and current service availability. Replacement tires and third-party charges are separate unless included in the confirmed quote.
  • Help Determining the Next StepSome tire problems require equipment or repair that cannot be completed where the vehicle is stopped. If that happens, Roadside Responder will explain the issue and help you understand the most practical next step.

No spare tire?

You May Still Have Options

Many newer vehicles do not include a spare tire. Others have a tire-inflator kit, sealant, run-flat tires, or limited storage instead.

If you do not have a spare, submit the request anyway. Depending on the tire damage and local availability, Roadside Responder may be able to plug an eligible puncture, provide inflation assistance, help locate a replacement tire, or pick up a suitable tire or wheel-and-tire assembly.

We will ask a few practical questions to determine what options are available. You are not expected to know whether the tire is repairable before contacting us.

Replacement tire help

Need a Tire Picked Up?

Finding the correct tire while your vehicle is disabled can be difficult. Roadside Responder may be able to help verify the tire size, locate nearby inventory, and pick up an available replacement.

Before purchasing or collecting a tire, we will confirm the plan with you, including tire specifications, retailer availability, purchase price, pickup location, travel or service charges, whether mounting or balancing is required, and what can be completed at the vehicle. You may also purchase a tire directly and arrange for Roadside Responder to pick it up when practical.

  • Tire size and basic specifications
  • Retailer availability and pickup location
  • Purchase price and service charges
  • Any mounting or balancing needed
  • What can be completed at the vehicle

Your safety comes first

Do Not Put Yourself at Risk to Inspect the Tire

If the vehicle is near moving traffic or in another unsafe location, remain in a safe place and do not stand beside the damaged tire to inspect it or take photographs. Tell Roadside Responder where the vehicle is located and describe the surrounding conditions. We will consider access and technician safety when reviewing the request.

  • Do not crawl under the vehicle
  • Do not stand in an active traffic lane
  • Do not touch exposed cords, sharp metal, or a damaged wheel
  • Do not continue driving on a tire that is flat, separating, or coming apart
  • If the vehicle is in immediate danger, contact emergency authorities first

What to expect

A Practical Review of Your Tire Situation

When you contact Roadside Responder, we will review the vehicle, location, spare-tire availability, and anything you know about the tire problem. Based on that information, we will discuss the likely options and pricing before dispatch.

Once on-site, the technician will inspect the tire, wheel, spare, and surrounding work area before beginning service. If the original plan is not appropriate after inspection, we will explain why and discuss other available options. That may include inflation, a tire plug, spare installation, replacement-tire pickup, or another practical next step.
